Farmers Almanac reported that in 1970, San Francisco activist John McConnell and Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson separately asked Americans to join a grassroots demonstration.  Mr. McConnell chose the spring equinox,  March 21 and Sen. Nelson chose April 22.  Millions of people participated, and today Earth Day is more important then ever.

New Wave OLC is part of the Bioneer Movement!  We are the local program of emerging social and scientific innovators in our culture that combine the educational and environmental issues facing the I generation today.  Through New Wave OLC we want to bridge the connection between students and the environment so they can learn and understand that they are a part of the interconnected web of nature.
 
Our focus is to replace old lessons with new, up to date materials that engage students in topics that matter to them - the air they breathe, the water they drink, the food they eat. We strive to cultivate student understanding of their relationship with the environment and encourage them to be responsible stewards of the Earth.  We make learning fun and relevant.  We offer programs and apps available to accomplish these goals.  In our online Center we bring the extras that are lacking in traditional education. Our virtual education experience is like no other!  We are nurturing the leaders of our sustainable future.

A front page article in the New York Times, Saturday, 3/23/2013, mentioned that some of Volusia County Schools are encouraging students to BYOT (bring your own technology) to school.  Here at NWOLC, it is a requirement and viewed as an essential to student achievement.  Students that are comfortable with their own tools perform better.  What we focus on is instilling confidence in your child's education using his/her tools and virtual education.  We take the aspects of the students online educational environment that they are comfortable with and build on that.  

Self confidence in learning through the equipment students use in everyday life breeds success.  But wait!  Look at your child.  Are they like most children today who are glued to their technology?  Are they physically fit and active?  Do you find it difficult to get them active and socializing?  Well, at NWOLC we also have BYWS (bring your walking shoes).  Yes, that is correct.  An integral part of our program is getting outside, walking, enjoying nature, and socializing.  Does that seem trite and overlooked in today's educational climate?  Not at NWOLC!  We can make a difference in your child's education by making learning fun! positive, esteem building support to your child in a caring environment.  We believe in and stress developing academics, wellness, and socialization in your child.
