 Here's a great site to learn about theater in Japan, China, Bali, and the United States. You'll also find out about different aspects of theater such as costumes and scenery. There’s even a little history of the theater itself. There is a lot of information packed into this video presentation so feel free to play it twice.

 Ever wonder what it would be like to create your own fossil? Play the game that allows you to make your own fossil based on the conditions you select. Read about the four types of fossils that are preserved in sedimentary layers. Then when you make your own fossil you can choose how your dinosaur died, where it died, what effects happened over time, and how the fossil was exposed. As you are making your choices, some will not make a fossil, and you’ll learn why then have a chance to go back and apply what you’ve learned.  There's a great site that has a perfect spot for you if you're wondering what you need to read before you get to college. In support of such a worthy endeavor, the American Library Association provides a list of books for those who are thinking of going on to college, or just love the challenge of a good read. The list is divided into content areas such as the Arts and Humanities, History and Cultures, Literature and Language Arts, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences.  Christopher Columbus set his sights to the New World on October 12, 1492. Columbus knew in his heart the world was round. Unfortunately, he thought the diameter was smaller than it is and landed on San Salvador and continued to explore Hispaniola and Cuba on his first voyage when he thought he’d reached Asia. You can read his impressions of the land and its people. You’ll also find his letter to Ferdinand and Isabella in which he laid out his ideas for the colonization of this new territory. Music ethnologist Mark Slobin did field work in the country in 1967-1972, studying the music of the Turkmens, who lived not only in Afghanistan, but also in Iran and Turkmenistan. You can also learn even more about the artwork itself, including artistic technique and symbolism.  Here’s a story that blends fact and fiction with the magic of Robin Hood. You can listen to the story of Matilda’s Bracelet and its fatal results or take the long route and read the text. Learn about King John and the Magna Carta in two sections that tell the origin of the story. In addition there are photographs of an English church mentioned in the story, medieval jewelry, and a drawing of Matilda. The handy glossary defines some unfamiliar words, and there’s even a teacher’s section to show how to use this story in the history curriculum.  Use this game based on a painting by 19th century American painter Winslow Homer to learn about his art and sports. Play this game easily by looking at the picture, reading the question, and clicking to find the answer. Along the way, you will find out something about the history of various sports. You’ll also learn a little about Winslow Homer. Although the game is geared to elementary age students middle school students will enjoy learning facts that they didn’t know about various sports.  SOS Math is a great site that offers quite a bit mathematical enrichment questions. Solving Equations is a must have in your favorite file! If you need a quick glance concerning algebraic problems or solutions, you'll find each step carefully laid out. You can then work through another example or ask for more problems to solve, each of which will have the solution explained. Practice solving linear equations, equations containing radicals, equations with absolute values, quadratic equations, equations with fractions, exponential equations, logarithmic equations, and trigonometric equations is included. |
