This site features a variety of books from around the globe that you can pull up in a blink of an eye. International Children's Digital Library makes children's classics accessible in many different languages. If you are looking for a way to introduce global themes, the this site is your answer! This example features the story of Little Red Riding Hood in English but can be translated into Italian, Spanish, Farsi, and Persian. Once you've flipped through Little Red Riding Hood try out some of the other classics to inspire your students!
In order to gain fluency writers must utilize transitional words. Transitional words build a bridge from sentence to sentence or paragraph to paragraph.
Read through six different sentences to gain a better understanding of how transitions work. You can choose the best transition that connects the ideas placing it in the correct place in the given sentence. After practicing here, you'll be ready to try them on your own. 
There is the notion that big farming states in the Midwest were harmed most during the Great Depression by the drought that created the Dust Bowl. That may have a had a big impact on farmers and their economic health, but the banking crisis that affected the rest of the country caused many hardships in states in the Midwest. The bank failures of the 1930s are described here. You'll also find personal interviews with people who experienced the Great Depression. Afterwards click on more narrations to get a real sense of life in small farming communities throughout the Midwest during the 1930s.
 Musictheory.net is a great reference site for music students and teachers. The online resource begins with an explanation of music staff, clefs, and ledger lines to establish a solid foundation in music theory. Once your lessons are finished, you will understand Neapolitan Chords. Each step of learning gives a verbal explanation, a pictorial demonstration, and at times an auditory example. You can utilize various parts of this site to demonstrate elements of music theory in class, or perhaps assign a section to students for review as a study guide. Once a lesson opens take note of the little keyboard in the upper right corner. Click on it and open a playable keyboard in a separate window.  Click on a fraction and match it with its equivalent picture. What great fun for those learning the beginning steps for fractions. This interactive game allows students to play in a relaxed mode or challenge their learning against a timer. Students are sure to have fun all while developing an understanding of equivalent fractions.  A recent measles outbreak originating in the western United States left one individual infected from visiting Disneyland in December. Since then the country has been involved in a heated debate about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. This fact sheet published by the Immunization Action Coalition provides not only facts and links to reliable resources like the CDC and Children’s Hospitals, but also powerful testimonials by people infected by the virus. Students can use this resource for a good informative essay topic.  Practice forensics science as you investigate an automobile crash. You’ll need to print out the crash scene document so you can record the information as you compile it. First you’ll need to gather information. Math skills are important in assessing the details you gather. You’ll also learn to interview witnesses. Figure the speed the cars were traveling after the collision based on the formula provided. After all the data have been collected, you draw conclusions as to what caused the collision, and who was at fault. This is an extensive look at how to gather and interpret evidence, a great introduction to forensics.  Check out this interactive from Annenberg Learner that challenges you to show off your knowledge of twenty important geographical features around the United States. Being able to identify these features is important in understanding the geography of the nation, but is equally important in learning about and understanding our history. What did the Mississippi River have to do with the Treaty of Paris after the Revolutionary War? How did the river systems in the east affect the American economy? Having a good grasp of the geography of the United States is imperative to understanding its history.  Check out Pierre-Auguste Renoir at this exhibit from The National Gallery in London. It gives a brief biography of Renoir, focusing on the influences of other artists on his approach to painting. View twelve of his paintings that are part of the gallery’s collection. Each painting can be examined more closely by using the magnifying glass. You can read about the individual paintings, find out about the medium Renoir used for the painting, and see the size.
