This site hosts a great review of rhyming sounds for the primary
student to play. There are a total of 30 words offered and the student can find the corresponding rhyming word from a choice of three solutions. When the child picks the correct word a sound of wild cheering will ensue. Should an error be made, a buzzing sound will remind the player to start again. There are also relevent links for other games. This site is child friendly and all your student needs to know is how to operate the mouse. An article in ICT-Pulse recently spoke of issues facing on-line education students. The article is informative and worth sharing. After reading the article, confirmation of our philosophy on education today was fortified. We have been developing our concept of the New Wave OLC for some years. As trans-classroom teachers, we recognized these stated issues. Our unique interactive approach to education today incorporates our curriculum coupled with the on-line curriculum the student is enrolled in. It is delivered through the experience of
discovering our local ecology and storytelling (local lore). We have confronted and researched critical issues facing on-line education of tweens, and teenagers. Our program addresses the lack of face to face interaction by working one on one and in groups. We offer programming that also addresses the risk of isolation and stunted social development of students. Our skilled staff are writing enthusiasts that develop necessary writing skills in our students. And, we are trying to limit the high costs of quality education. Our professional, and nuturing qualities are priceless. We believe that we have a successful program ready for the East Volusia and Flagler area. Check out the article by ITCPulse. THE NATURAL WAY. _John Vaslowski Four Critical Unresolved Issues of Online Learning New Wave Online Learning Center founders have always embraced outdoor education as a vital and beneficial component of our teaching experiences. We have followed closely the No Child Left Inside Act, sponsored by the No Child Left Inside Coalition. We strongly believe in the positive effects our outdoor education program contributes to the joy, satisfaction, social/personnel, and academic development of our students.
According to a new report by National Wildlife Federation, Back to School: Back Outside , time spent outdoors both during school and at home helps children become high-performance learners and score higher on standard tests. The report shows how outdoor time is connected with wide-ranging academic benefits including; * improved classroom behavior, * increased student motivation and enthusiasm to learn, * better performance in math, science, reading and social studies, * reduced Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), * higher scores on standardized tests (including college entrance exams), A spring 2010 survey of 1900 educators by the National Wildlife Federation found that: * 78 percent believe children who spend regular time in unstructured outdoor play are better able to concentrate and perform better in the classroom, * 82 percent said students need daily unstructured outdoor time as a counterbalance to the significant time spent indoors in front of electronic media, * 75 percent said students who spend regular time outdoors tend to be more creative and better able to problem solve in the classroom, The No Child Left Inside Act and Be Out There Campaign have spurred us on at New Wave Online Learning Center to continue our development of programming to meet the needs of today’s youth. Coupled with our Academic Learning Coach component for our Virtual School learners, we offer a unique and stimulating academic/socialization program at our Online Learning Center. Does your child come home from school worried about being lost in her schoolwork or feeling social pressure from peers? Does your on-line learner ask questions you cannot answer or don’t have the time to answer? Are you concerned about your child’s social development? Children are often placed in school environments with numerous obligations, time limitations, and peer conflicts leading to a state of stress. Frustration, aggravation, panic, anxiety, and fear of failure are but a few of the outcomes that may be expressed when an individual feels the stress of being lost. Our goal is to help students find their way in a caring, respectful, and nurturing environment, “THE NATURAL WAY”, at New Wave On-line Learning Center. _John Vaslowski More than 160,000 U.S. students stay home from school each day from fear of being bullied - Bullying Statistics Did you know:

New Wave OLC has new ideas and strategies for the cyber family of today. Our Progressive Movement model of Dewey's Theory stresses that education is built from meaningful activities in a social context. By combining our roles of trans-classroom teachers with that of academic learning coaches, our ideas, strategies, and practices transfer our classroom experiences to online learning successes. Through our socialization and ecological student experiences, we provide a social constructivism that assists in development of the whole child, adolescent, and young adult. Our pedagogical approach to education is goal orientated. We believe that the student learner should be self-directed and autonomous. Our role as Academic Learning Coaches (Teachers), is as facilitators of learning process where the student/learner has a choice. At New Wave OLC, we are Instructional Designers. Our system of learning is unique to this time and age. As trans-classroom teachers, we take our best experiences from the past and join them with the ideas of a new educational realm. Communications with students through online forums and stressing proper netiquette (positive, supportive, and instructive) lends to success down the road. Who can be there each day ensuring such a victory? We can! Catch the wave, New Wave OLC. Supporting and redefining education of the future. And that future is now! - John Vaslowski |
